Over the years I’ve met lots of talented athletes. Many have achieved their goals, but sadly many have not. The difference between the successful ones and the unsucessful ones is not ability.
I have known one athlete, who I have privately identified as the most talented athlete I’d ever known, who didn’t make it. He’s still around the sport on the fringes, but not competing. This guy was so technically superior and physiologically gifted, he could have done anything he’d wished, in our sport.

We have just come back from Western Australia. Thirty of our athletes competed in the WA Ironman in Busselton. It’s a beautiful venue for a race and we’ve all enjoyed ourselves.
It’s not uncommon for athletes to get sick after smashing themselves over an Ironman distance race. Often the reason they get sick, is simply not looking after themselves right after the race.

Last year at Port MacQaurie at the Australian Ironman, our supporters squad outnumbered our competitors, and we had over forty competitors. The supporters put in so much energy that our competitors were lifted to a new level. The energy in the squad is pushed up by every member who contributes his or her little bit. It’s a seven hour drive to get from Brisbane down to Port MacQuarie. On top of that there are accomodation costs, meals etc. Anyone who was part of that supporters group had a great day, an …
