This is a strictly mathematical viewpoint…it goes like this:
What Makes 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 103%? What makes up 100% in life?

The best athletes don’t even have to think when they race. It’s instinctive, they’re just born competetive animals. But don’t despair if you haven’t grown up with this skill. It can be learned.
I had to learn this skill myself and I’ve taught lots of athletes how to concentrate.
It seems that there’s a space in your mind, which if it’s not filled with some kind of mantra, the wrong thoughts will creep in. By the wrong thoughts I mean self doubt, unproductive thoughts and general wandering focus.

One of triathlon’s phenomena is “The Epic Week”. In recent years, athletes, particular Ironman athletes have been keen to have a go at an “Epic Week”.
There is a school of thought out there, where flogging yourself with mega mileages for a whole week, will bring about some miracle of adaption, where the athlete will be lifted to a higher level than ever before. Each athlete in the squad has his/her own goals for the season. My job is to become the athlete’s partner in achieving those goals.
I have my own goals for the squad as a whole. I start the season with a list of things I want to achieve with the group.
One of my goals for this season is to have at least eight of the guys ride 100km at faster than 40kph. Another is to have eight of them ride our local mountain time trial up to O’Reiley’s in less than one hour. …

Many of our squad members groan when I ask them to tumble turn in the pool. Most “give it a go”, some don’t even try, and those who have persevered do it with varying degrees of proficiency.  
The strongest reason for doing it is, professionalism.
When you swim like a swimmer, ride like a cyclist and run like a runner, you simply pick which race you’re going to qualify at and you go do it. These days, you can’t afford to have a weak leg.

I often laugh when someone copies something we do in training. It rarely works as well for someone else as it does for us. There’s always someone looking for “the secret”.
The “secret” is, there is no secret. Don’t tell anyone. If there was any one factor which causes my athletes to outperform many of their competitors who are actually doing more training, it’s “synergy”.

The recipes below are from our Cycos cooking day where I introduced some simple nutritious recipes to the guys, showing them that all of these dishes can be cooked at the same time on a Saturday afternoon in three hours by one person, cleaning up all of the mess as he goes.
There’s enough food here for a couple to store and reheat( a much better alternative for an athlete than take-out meals)
